Expedition 40 has had a busy few days on the International Space Station (ISS). A spacewalk by Russian cosmonauts retrieved samples for science from the outside of the station. Astronauts also deployed a new batch of NanoRacks CubeSat mini-satellites (image credit: NASA). The CubeSats enable experiments such as observations of the Earth and advanced electronics testing.
Breaking news: We are waiting for NASA to comment on reports from Russian scientists that phytoplankton was found on the outside of the ISS.
